How My PCP Check calculates your figures
Transparent formulas, clear limitations and a preference for your lender’s contractual figures.
The calculator deliberately uses simple, visible arithmetic. Where a lender supplies a contractual figure, that figure should take priority over an estimate.
Scheduled total amount
For explanation only, the checker estimates scheduled total payable as: deposit + (monthly payment × agreement term) + balloon/GMFV + option fee. Your agreement may contain other items, fees or treatments, so use the contractual Total Amount Payable where available.
Voluntary-termination position
If you enter the 50% figure printed in your agreement, the checker compares your entered/estimated qualifying amount paid with that contractual figure. If you do not enter it, the tool uses 50% of the simplified scheduled total above as an estimate. This is a progress comparison, not a legal eligibility decision.
Equity
Equity is calculated as current vehicle value − current lender settlement figure. Positive equity means the value entered is above settlement; negative equity means settlement is higher. Vehicle valuations and settlement quotations can move quickly.
Mileage projection
The tool uses a straight-line projection based on miles driven so far and scheduled agreement progress. It compares that projection with annual allowance × term. It is not a prediction of how you will actually drive.
Remaining scheduled cost
The remaining-cost figure adds scheduled monthly payments still to fall due plus the balloon/GMFV and option fee. It is not an early-settlement figure and does not model statutory rebates.
Privacy by design
Calculator values are processed in the browser. Analytics events record only high-level interaction flags such as whether a section was used; the actual settlement, vehicle-value, mileage, deposit and payment figures are not intentionally sent to Google Analytics.
Source hierarchy
For general explanations we prefer legislation and regulator/consumer guidance. For your actual agreement, the signed agreement and current lender quotation take priority. Where sources disagree or a rule depends on circumstances, the site tells you to confirm with the lender rather than pretending the calculator can resolve it.
Primary and consumer sources
